What this really means is that the age of the windmill has come to Minecraft. By harnessing either the power of the wind through windmills or the power of rivers through the use of water wheels, players with Better Than Wolves can create intricate mechanical constructions by using nature as their power source. This system functions sort of like the traditional Minecraft achievement system, except that this one actually has a purpose. There are 7 stages at present, 6 of which reside int he age of wood, and the 7th resides with the 'New Age', depending on Steel. You progress through the ages by constructing and using different machines in particular ways, very much in the same way that real humans continuously invent machines.

Sadly, Better than Wolves suffers somewhat from it's ambitiousness. Better than Wolves is compatible with practically no other mods, which eliminates it from one of the things that makes Minecraft mods so good – the fact that they can all add on to one another. That said, it's a great total conversion that everyone should at least check out once.
